Car-free days out

Things to do in the Azores without a car

Plan the bus first, then choose the day. Every area below starts with what this site already publishes about reaching it by bus, so you know which tours the bus gets you to and which ones include the ride. The place is bigger than its bus map; this page shows both sides honestly.

Booking through these links supports this free guide at no extra cost to you.

Optional experiences

Experiences that solve more than a bus ride

These curated options help with dispersed sights, guided context or awkward meeting points. Official bus information remains separate.

By area, then by kind of day

Where to go in the Azores, and how the bus gets you there

Each area opens with the bus fact this site publishes for it, then current listings from GetYourGuide by kind of day: boat trips, hikes, food, culture, wildlife, family days, rainy-day ideas and the day trips the bus cannot make. Listings load only as you scroll to them.

São Miguel

Crater-rim walks above Sete Cidades, cozido and thermal pools in Furnas, family days in the hot water, and the full-day circuits that collect you in Ponta Delgada.

Getting there by bus AzoresBus lines 205, 206 and 208 reach the crater village of Sete Cidades and line 110 reaches Furnas via Ribeira Grande and Maia. No AzoresBus line prints a stop at Vista do Rei or Lagoa do Fogo, so those viewpoints are where a tour earns its place.

Before you book

Questions about touring in the Azores without a car

Can I see the Azores without a car?

On the islands with a published network, yes: AzoresBus on São Miguel, EVT on Terceira, Farias on Faial and UTC Pico on Pico, with the MiniBUS inside Ponta Delgada. Vista do Rei and Lagoa do Fogo, where no line prints a stop, are where a tour earns its place.

Which experiences include pickup, and which start where the bus stops?

The Terceira cooking class in the cards above includes pickup and return transport; the canyoning starts at the park, a printed stop on the stopping line to Nordeste. Check each listing’s meeting point before booking.

How do I get back after a tour?

Plan the return before you set off: each destination page prints the lines that serve it and its return-planning notes, and connections between lines are not guaranteed.

Does this page show prices or departure times?

No. Prices, availability and meeting points stay on GetYourGuide, and departures stay with the island operators and in the Azores Bus app.
