São Miguel bus fares: what AzoresBus publishes

AzoresBus publishes its passes in detail and its single fares hardly at all. This page separates what the operator states from what it does not, and it does not fill the gap with guesses.

The short answer

The published products are network day passes and monthly, multi-trip and social passes priced by fare-unit band: a 1-day pass is €7, 2 days €12, 3 days €16 and 5 days €25, each valid on the whole network from first validation (24, 48, 72 and 120 hours) [source]. Day passes

Four network passes are published in the tariff feed dated 1 September 2026: 1 day €7 (24 hours from first validation), 2 days €12 (48 hours), 3 days €16 (72 hours) and 5 days €25 (120 hours), all valid on every AzoresBus line [source]. The passes leaflet, updated 19 August 2026, lists the same four products for the general public [source].

Monthly and multi-trip passes

Monthly passes are valid for one calendar month and one origin–destination pair with unlimited trips, priced by fare-unit band: €31.75 for 0 to 5 units, €36.90 for 6 to 7, €40.75 for 8 and €43.00 for 9 [source]. Pensioners aged 65 and over, invalidity pensioners and the registered unemployed pay €23.80, €27.65, €30.55 and €32.25 for the same bands [source]. The pre-purchased multi-trip card holds 10 trips between one origin and destination at a 10% discount: €9.45, €10.80, €11.70 and €12.60 by band [source]. Which band a given journey falls into is not published.

Singles, children and discounts

The passes leaflet lists a single on-board ticket ("Bilhete Simples de Bordo", one trip, general public), a half single for children aged 4 to 11 inclusive, a pre-purchased single at 10% below the on-board single and a stored-value card ("Cartão Valor") at the same 10% discount [source]. Card costs are published: €2 to issue the stored-value or pre-purchased card and €6 to issue a pass card [source, source].

Social passes

Free social passes exist for households in the first or second Azores income-tax band, for residents aged 65 and over receiving social support, and for former combatants and their widows, each with a list of required documents in the leaflet [source]. They are for residents and are outside the scope of a visitor guide.

What is not published

A single fare for a named journey, payment methods on board, luggage or bicycle rules and any airport supplement do not appear in the tariff feed or the leaflet [source, source]. What goes wrong

Buying a day pass for a single short hop can cost more than the single, but nobody can tell you the single in advance because the band table has no stop mapping [source]. For any day that includes one long line each way (Furnas, Sete Cidades, Nordeste) the €7 day pass is the only published price that can be planned on [source].
