A worthwhile sight can lack verified bus access. Choose a place, check its entrance and local transport separately, and keep a fallback for the return.
Make your visit work
- Do not treat a stop sharing a sight’s name as proof it reaches the entrance. Use printed stop sequences and operator information.
Build around one place
On São Miguel, a Furnas village and garden day differs from a remote crater viewpoint. Choose the place first, then use its page to see whether a named operator stop and direction are actually verified.
Solve the return first
Read the direction and day columns in the operator timetable, not just an outward departure. If a trail ends elsewhere, agree on pickup or check a verified onward service before you begin.
When a stop is absent
A viewpoint, bathing pool or waterfall may need a taxi, tour or long mapped walk. Where this guide has no verified stop at the entrance, it says so; a road nearby is not a transport promise.
Where is the full car-free overview?
The São Miguel without a car guide, linked below, gathers the network, the airport, the bases, the day trips with a printed return, the beaches with a stop and what still needs a tour; the Sundays guide lists which lines stop on Sundays and holidays, and the getting-back guide explains the return column. Together they are the honest version of a car-free week on São Miguel.
