The Azores bus companion

Nine islands. Eight bus systems. One app.

The Azores do not have one unified bus network — Azores Bus brings every island’s operator together so you can check the next departure without hunting through eight different websites.

  • Nine islands, one app Every island’s bus operator in a single place, from São Miguel to Corvo.
  • Made for offline Timetables stored on your phone for coast roads and craters with no signal.
  • Source-checked Every time traces back to an official operator or government publication.

Independent app. No ticket sales or live vehicle tracking.

São Miguel interurban service is in transition

The Regional Government guaranteed continuity in 2026 while temporary contracting and the longer-term concession proceed. Older operator lists and PDFs must not be assumed current; confirm the latest operator and timetable before travel.

Ferries are not part of the bus network

Atlânticoline publishes inter-island sailings and operational notices separately. This guide does not promise a bus-to-ferry or bus-to-flight connection unless an official source explicitly guarantees it.

Strongest official tools

Start with these well-documented networks

These examples have useful official web tools today. They are not interchangeable: tickets, calendars, stops, and service notices remain operator-specific.

São Miguel · urban Municipal network

Move around Ponta Delgada by MiniBUS

The municipal page publishes operating windows, ticket prices, sales guidance, a network link, and the official PDL MiniBUS app.

  • Lines C and D are the routes currently highlighted by the municipality.
  • A single onboard ticket is listed at €0.50.
  • Do not use MiniBUS information as an interurban São Miguel timetable.

Pico · island network Operator website and app

Use UTC Pico’s route and stop tools

UTC Pico links its schedules, fare information, network map, routes, stops, near-me tool, and real-time view from one official site.

  • Choose the day and direction on the official schedule.
  • Use the network map to confirm which side of the island is served.
  • Treat the operator tool—not a copied table—as the live check.

Faial · island network Network, schedules, and payment

Plan Faial travel with Farias

Farias publishes its Faial network and schedule area and says contactless bank-card payment is available onboard its buses and at ticket offices.

  • Open the operator network before choosing accommodation away from Horta.
  • Check the service day as well as the route.
  • Use the operator support contact for ambiguous journeys.

Terceira · EVT Route PDFs and fare pages

Check the EVT route document itself

EVT publishes route documents and fare information, including a dedicated airport–Praia da Vitória sheet. Printed effective dates matter because older PDFs can remain online.

  • Confirm the route document’s effective date.
  • Read weekday, Saturday, and Sunday columns separately.
  • Recheck the airport sheet rather than assuming a flight connection.

São Miguel

Use the municipal source for Ponta Delgada MiniBUS. Treat interurban operators and timetables as transitional in 2026 and verify them through current government/operator notices.

One island, distinct scopes

Do not merge São Miguel’s two systems

A city ticket or timetable does not describe the island-wide interurban service. The separate IDs here preserve that boundary in both content and future data.

A reliable routine

Plan each ride in four checks

Azorean timetables can distinguish working days, Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, school periods, and seasonal services. Match every leg to the correct source and calendar.

  1. Choose the island

Begin with the island card. Similar operator names, route numbers, or place names do not make services interchangeable across islands.

Government of the AzoresTransport Plan for the Azores 2021–2030

  2. Open the operator source

Use the linked operator or municipal page and confirm its scope. On São Miguel, decide whether you need municipal MiniBUS or interurban transport.

Municipality of Ponta DelgadaMini BUS timetable, fares, network, and official appGovernment of the AzoresContinuity of public transport services on São Miguel

  3. Match the service calendar

Read the effective date and the correct weekday, weekend, holiday, school, or seasonal column. A page crawl date is not a timetable effective date.

Empresa de Viação TerceirenseTerceira route documentsRumo à NaturezaSão Jorge route information

  4. Recheck before departure

Weather, operational notices, and contract transitions can change the practical journey. Check every onward ferry or flight separately and leave a safe margin.

Tickets stay local

There is no fare assumption that fits every island

Use only the fare page for the exact municipal or operator network you will ride. Prices and products below are deliberately scoped.

Ponta Delgada MiniBUS

The municipal page updated 6 May 2026 lists a €0.50 onboard single ticket and €4.00 pre-purchased ten-trip ticket, along with weekly and monthly products.

  • These prices apply to the municipal MiniBUS network.
  • They are not São Miguel interurban fares.
  • The municipality lists onboard and established sales points.

Terceira EVT

EVT maintains a separate tariff area. Match the fare document to the route and verify its printed effective date before relying on a price.

Airports, ports, and ferries

Treat every connection as a separate timetable

An airport stop or port-serving route does not by itself guarantee a connection. Build in time and verify each provider on the day.

Inter-island ferries

Atlânticoline owns the live ferry timetable, booking flow, fares, accessibility information, and operational notices. Bus information on this page is not a substitute for that live source.

  • Check sailing notices on the travel day.
  • Plan bus and ferry legs independently.
  • Do not assume through-ticketing or protected connections.

Corvo

Because no regular Corvo road-bus subsystem is verified in the regional plan, this guide does not manufacture an airport or port bus connection.

Good to know

Questions before you board

Short, scoped answers drawn from the source ledger above.

Is there one bus company for all of the Azores?

No. The regional transport plan describes eight independent road-bus subsystems, one on each island except Corvo. Operators, timetables, fares, and ticket products must be checked island by island.

Source: Government of the AzoresTransport Plan for the Azores 2021–2030

Can I use Ponta Delgada MiniBUS information for the rest of São Miguel?

No. MiniBUS is a municipal urban network. São Miguel interurban service is a separate scope and is undergoing a documented contracting transition in 2026.

Source: Municipality of Ponta DelgadaMini BUS timetable, fares, network, and official appGovernment of the AzoresContinuity of public transport services on São MiguelDiário da RepúblicaResolution 57/2026

Does Corvo have a regular public bus?

The official regional transport plan describes road-bus subsystems on every Azorean island except Corvo. Azores Bus therefore marks Corvo as having no verified regular public bus subsystem.

Source: Government of the AzoresTransport Plan for the Azores 2021–2030

Are ferry times included in the bus timetables?

No. Atlânticoline publishes ferry schedules, fares, bookings, and operational notices separately. Check the ferry and bus legs independently and do not assume a protected connection.

Source: AtlânticolineInter-island ferry timetables and operational notices

Can I pay by contactless card?

Farias explicitly advertises contactless bank-card payment onboard all of its Faial buses and at its ticket offices. Do not generalize that payment method to other island operators without checking their official guidance.

Source: FariasFaial network, schedules, support, and payment guidance

Why does this guide link out instead of copying every timetable?

Operators publish timetables in different formats and with different effective dates. Linking to the live official source avoids presenting an old PDF, image, or app result as current and avoids copying branded maps or layouts without permission.
